Vote for Joy-Joy!

Bon Jovi comes to throw a massive gig in Finland next month. He arrives without an opening act though. It's because he's looking for one!

There's a competition where up-and-coming unsigned bands can make it to the big stage as an opening act for Bon Jovi himself! But to get there our band needs fans on this website: www.hitlantis.com

Please support Joy-Joy :)

All you need to do is:
- go to Hitlantis.com (and listen for a bit)
- sign in using your facebook account or e-mail
- become our fan <3

THANK YOUUU!! <3 <3 <3

Joy-Joy

We have a band! It's Joy-Joy!

We started making music together in the fall of 2010. Back then we just got together sometimes and played and we didn't even know each other very well. But now we have developed our own thing. We have so much fun together, I can't ever wait for the next band practice!

We make our own music. At the moment I have written all the lyrics. The songs are about love, loneliness, dreams, life, this world... and they're mostly inspired by my experiences and things happening around. About the music. It is amazing how in a band every person and instrument plays a part, and together it sounds incredible.

We play rock music. It's a bit like pop-rock, I'm not sure if there is a niche for the songs we write. But anyway, we're a rock band! Whoooo!

So, by now we have practiced enough to play... and we are having our first gig on April 18th - in just a couple of weeks! :D I'm so excited! I'll keep you posted. Meanwhile check out our facebook page.

Joy-Joy!

Winter turning into spring slooowly

Hey there! What's up?

I think I just woke up from hibernation. As you might have an idea, it's really dark in Finland in the winter. The sky is pitch black most of the day and night, and when it's 'light' it's still not very bright outside. You might not see the sun in ages because the sky is usually cloudy. So what you see is: everything dark in the morning when you wake up, around noon behind the light gray clouds in the sky a weird spot of light remotely resembling something you remember being called the sun, in the afternoon dark again, and in the evening - well - you can guess.

So I consider it well justified to blame the nature for my lack of energy and enthusiasm.

But now it all has changed! As we roam this northern land in the darkness, day starts slowly sneaking back into our lives and gets longer bit by bit every day. You might not see the gradual change, but suddenly it hits you! It's already light before 8 in the morning! And today I realized it was still not pitch black at 7 pm!

Soon it will be light all the time. But that is what I need. And I'm glad I'm getting it! :D

Good night, good day

It's 3 am and I can't get sleep. I guess it's because of all the thoughts running through my head. I have a lot of thoughts and ideas. And motivation. As the days here in the north are slowly getting brighter and longer, I'm getting more energetic and positive-minded.

Last year was amazing. I can only hope this year will compare. But then again I could just decide it will. Done! This year is gonna be awesome!

But seriously, there are gonna be changes in my life. And that is because I'm gonna graduate. As soon as I get my thesis done. And after that: everything's a mystery! Maybe I'll go and study my master's degree, maybe I'll get a job, or maybe I'll do something else. Or maybe I won't. I'm just saying that come what may. Life is an adventure! :) (And I'm writing this in the middle of the night, so please forgive my slightly over-poetic tone.)

Today again I realized how taking chances might get you something you couldn't even have dreamed of. I don't think you should plan everything ahead. That way you might overlook things that are important for you. Don't be afraid of change. And don't be afraid of taking chances.

Well, new years don't come without resolutions, do they? (They do.) As I said, I'm all energetic and motivated for becoming a better person. (Though I'm absolutely positive I will still be the same ol' me.)

Anyways, I made the same new year's resolutions as probably every other person on this planet making their's: start a healthy lifestyle, experience positive growth in every aspect of your life, and be happy. Same as pretty much every year. But what I figured to do differently this year, is to actually make these things happen. And that is just a matter of attitude! You know what they say: "With the right attitude..."

So. I've exchanged slacking to exercising and dullness to cheerfulness. (And I'm still certain that I will still just be the same ol' me...)

And then I realized, life is not all about achieving your goals. Happiness will not rain upon you when you reach the delicate perfection you've been building around your little world. Life is what happens when you're on your way. You might as well have some fun. :)

Good night! And in couple of hours, good morning! Time to make dreams come true! (Seriously good night...)

Happy Christmas!

So this is Christmas, another year over. What I've learned is that instead of trying to control things in your life and force them into how you'd like them to be, you might as well enjoy it just where you are. As said, life is what happens when you're too busy planning it. I'd like to challenge you all to stop for a second, look around you and realize how amazing things truly are. Notice them. Because after this moment passes it is gone forever and will only exist as a worn-out memory in your head. Nothing lasts forever, so that is why I'd like all of you to enjoy this moment, be grateful for what you have and let your loved ones know how much they mean to you.

Happy Christmas :)

December

Hi friends! Helsinki is covered with snow. There are massive piles of snow around every corner and on the ground lies a nearly meter high layer if snow. Sure the traffic is in trouble and so on, but the scene is just amazing. The world is sleeping under the white, heavy snow, wafting from the quiet night sky as tiny pearly flakes. Since we're so north it's pretty dark this time of the year. I mean it's dark most of the day, and when it's 'light' it's not very bright, just a dim shade of sunshine from behing the clouds. I'm used to it. But this place really is at the end of the world.

I don't know if anything in life goes as planned. You never know what will happen. And that is quite the point of it. What I've learned is that most of the time your expectations are wrong, and the ideas you have for what your future might look like will remain as frames in your imagination. But what actually takes place in our lives might be something greater we've ever dared to dream. Or not necessarily greater though. Lovelier, more exciting, even horrifying. But different. And what I believe we should do is to dare to take a leap towards the unknown, to dare to ride the waves washing over our lives, knowing we have no idea where we might end up.

Thank you for reading my blog, it does mean a lot to me. :)

Miami, Florida

After raw-raw-rocking the house with Lady Gaga and her awesome band and amazing dancers, and sleeping for an hour, I headed to the Helsinki-Vantaa airport. I met my sleepy choir, sleepy since it was like 4 am, and hopped on the airplane. Slept, watched movies, ate the usual not-very-delicious airplane food, drank beverages, and arrived to MIAMI! Hell yeah! :D

I was soo excited! And for a reason, we were in sunny Florida! And not just anywhere, we were on South Beach. And we were so excited about that, that every day and every night we would just hang out on the beach, enjoy the sun, watch the stars, sing, play and of course swim in the warm, turquoise ocean.

I love the fact that you can go out bikinis, a top and shorts and flip flops. I think I've mentioned it earlier too. I mean, I love snow and winter activities too, I really do. But here in the north exiting your house in the winter is a matter of surviving. And I just love the fact that you don't have to worry about such a thing.

Going to the beach. Not yet tanned though.

A view to the city from our bus.

Warm nights, ahh...

On the beach.

We weren't just in Miami on our trip though. Part of our trip took place in Naples, on the west coast of Florida. It's like straight west across the peninsula from Miami.

In Naples we took part in this choir project where we did workshops with kids at the ages from 11 to 13, and held concerts in Naples. I loved the workshops! Basically it meant that we could just play with the kids. :P

Although Miami was incredible, our visit to Naples lies still very close to my heart, because in Naples we stayed with local families. Our family was so great and lovely, I miss them!

Monster Ball

Yo folks! Sorry for abandoning my blogger's career for a moment and keeping all the cool news to myself. Will fix that now.

Before I get to this fall's highlight which I talked about in my last post, I want to quickly tell you about the night before hitting the airport and one of the coastal hot spots on our planet. Just hours before going to the airport I was on Lady Gaga's concert on her Monster Ball world tour.

Baby! I love Lady Gaga! And when the day before the concert my friend Liisa told me that she had gotten tickets for us, I was jumping up and down in the air, screaming and laughing. So was she. ;) Liisa told me that she had had to go out and run around the house a couple of times.

We were excited. Liisa came to my place, we had pizza, chose our outfits and did our make-up. I wore leopard-pattern leggings on top of which I had a body (you know, this tight swimsuit looking piece of clothing they used to wear in aerobics in the beginning of 90's) and boots. My make-up was from Lady Gaga's video "Telephone" and Liisa's make-up from the video "Paparazzi". And Liisa had on a ring similar to what Lady Gaga has worn. Details! Hahaha... :P

Not too many people at the concert had gone wild like us though. In the beginning I might have felt slightly overdressed, but after the concert... well... I was wearing the-coolest-fucking-clothes-EVER-at-that-moment. :)

But I was definitely owned by Stefani Germanotta aka Lady Gaga, the star of the night outweighing every single outfit at the arena. Her outfits were just wicked.

Lady Gaga was really cool. I loved it how she was present on the stage and put effort into making every single listener feel part of her show.

RAW-RAW-RA-AH-AH, ROMMA-ROMMAMMAAH, GA-GA OOH-LA-LAAH, WANT YOUR BAD ROMANCE!

Thank you all for visiting my blog, I means a lot to me. :)

3 nights to Miami!

Ah! Ah! Yay yay yay yay. Ah! Miami! Ah, ah! South beach, bring in the heat. Ah! Haha! Can y'all feel that? Can y'all feel that? Check it out! Ah!

Three nights til we're taking the plane to MIAMI! I am fucking excited!

As I've written before too, singing and choir are my hobbies. And now my choir Grex Musicus is going to do a trip to Miami. Oh yeah :D

We're gonna hold concerts, meet locals, and, of course, have a blast. :)

And to get to the mood here's a video...

Back in Helsinki

Yo! Sorry for not writing in a while, I've been re-adjusting to living in Finland. Though, there's not that much to adjust myself into, which makes it stupid that after a month I'm still generally confused about everything. Well. Almost everything in my life has changed, so I don't blame myself for being 'inefficient in adjusting into change in life situation'. Over these past couple of years I've gained some experience in this and I know that your new life in a new place doesn't always start overnight without efforts. You need to find your style of life and everything around that. But enough of wrist slitting here.

I like being back here. As I said, much has changed in my life, but the most important has remained - my friends are still here.

And it's good to be back Helsinki. As many of my fellow town dwellers do, I love Helsinki. This is a city with strong identity and nice atmosphere, and one of the things that make this place really cool is the fact that, I'd dare to say, most of the people really like to live here. It's not a place which people dreamed getting out of. It feels like home here.

Here are some pics from Suomenlinna. It's an island part of Helsinki.

Summer in Estonia

Here are some pictures showing a bit of my summer in Estonia.

My mum moved to the countryside, so there we lived the country life. :) Woke up at the dawn, had porridge for breakfast, went swimming, played with my little sisters, had lunch, cycled to the village, went swimming, played some more, went swimming again, had dinner, sang and played piano, went to bed and slept like a log.

It was hot. I loved it, though. One of the reasons why we were going swimming all the time. But also a cause for raging summer storms. I actually liked that, too. Being inside, warm and safe when outside the wind was blowing on the windows, rain was drumming the roof and lightning drawing shapes on the sky.

However the storms did do a lot of damage to peoples' houses, yards, roofs and whatever... That was horrible of course. But it was still pretty cool when we were driving to my uncle's place. We came right after the storm, and it felt like we had been driving in Jurassic Park. Huge trees had fallen on the road and dust was still flying in the air. Anyways, let's get to the pictures. :)
