Vote for Joy-Joy!

Bon Jovi comes to throw a massive gig in Finland next month. He arrives without an opening act though. It's because he's looking for one!

There's a competition where up-and-coming unsigned bands can make it to the big stage as an opening act for Bon Jovi himself! But to get there our band needs fans on this website: www.hitlantis.com

Please support Joy-Joy :)

All you need to do is:
- go to Hitlantis.com (and listen for a bit)
- sign in using your facebook account or e-mail
- become our fan <3

THANK YOUUU!! <3 <3 <3

Joy-Joy

We have a band! It's Joy-Joy!

We started making music together in the fall of 2010. Back then we just got together sometimes and played and we didn't even know each other very well. But now we have developed our own thing. We have so much fun together, I can't ever wait for the next band practice!

We make our own music. At the moment I have written all the lyrics. The songs are about love, loneliness, dreams, life, this world... and they're mostly inspired by my experiences and things happening around. About the music. It is amazing how in a band every person and instrument plays a part, and together it sounds incredible.

We play rock music. It's a bit like pop-rock, I'm not sure if there is a niche for the songs we write. But anyway, we're a rock band! Whoooo!

So, by now we have practiced enough to play... and we are having our first gig on April 18th - in just a couple of weeks! :D I'm so excited! I'll keep you posted. Meanwhile check out our facebook page.

Joy-Joy!

December

Hi friends! Helsinki is covered with snow. There are massive piles of snow around every corner and on the ground lies a nearly meter high layer if snow. Sure the traffic is in trouble and so on, but the scene is just amazing. The world is sleeping under the white, heavy snow, wafting from the quiet night sky as tiny pearly flakes. Since we're so north it's pretty dark this time of the year. I mean it's dark most of the day, and when it's 'light' it's not very bright, just a dim shade of sunshine from behing the clouds. I'm used to it. But this place really is at the end of the world.

I don't know if anything in life goes as planned. You never know what will happen. And that is quite the point of it. What I've learned is that most of the time your expectations are wrong, and the ideas you have for what your future might look like will remain as frames in your imagination. But what actually takes place in our lives might be something greater we've ever dared to dream. Or not necessarily greater though. Lovelier, more exciting, even horrifying. But different. And what I believe we should do is to dare to take a leap towards the unknown, to dare to ride the waves washing over our lives, knowing we have no idea where we might end up.

Thank you for reading my blog, it does mean a lot to me. :)

Monster Ball

Yo folks! Sorry for abandoning my blogger's career for a moment and keeping all the cool news to myself. Will fix that now.

Before I get to this fall's highlight which I talked about in my last post, I want to quickly tell you about the night before hitting the airport and one of the coastal hot spots on our planet. Just hours before going to the airport I was on Lady Gaga's concert on her Monster Ball world tour.

Baby! I love Lady Gaga! And when the day before the concert my friend Liisa told me that she had gotten tickets for us, I was jumping up and down in the air, screaming and laughing. So was she. ;) Liisa told me that she had had to go out and run around the house a couple of times.

We were excited. Liisa came to my place, we had pizza, chose our outfits and did our make-up. I wore leopard-pattern leggings on top of which I had a body (you know, this tight swimsuit looking piece of clothing they used to wear in aerobics in the beginning of 90's) and boots. My make-up was from Lady Gaga's video "Telephone" and Liisa's make-up from the video "Paparazzi". And Liisa had on a ring similar to what Lady Gaga has worn. Details! Hahaha... :P

Not too many people at the concert had gone wild like us though. In the beginning I might have felt slightly overdressed, but after the concert... well... I was wearing the-coolest-fucking-clothes-EVER-at-that-moment. :)

But I was definitely owned by Stefani Germanotta aka Lady Gaga, the star of the night outweighing every single outfit at the arena. Her outfits were just wicked.

Lady Gaga was really cool. I loved it how she was present on the stage and put effort into making every single listener feel part of her show.

RAW-RAW-RA-AH-AH, ROMMA-ROMMAMMAAH, GA-GA OOH-LA-LAAH, WANT YOUR BAD ROMANCE!

Thank you all for visiting my blog, I means a lot to me. :)

Back in Helsinki

Yo! Sorry for not writing in a while, I've been re-adjusting to living in Finland. Though, there's not that much to adjust myself into, which makes it stupid that after a month I'm still generally confused about everything. Well. Almost everything in my life has changed, so I don't blame myself for being 'inefficient in adjusting into change in life situation'. Over these past couple of years I've gained some experience in this and I know that your new life in a new place doesn't always start overnight without efforts. You need to find your style of life and everything around that. But enough of wrist slitting here.

I like being back here. As I said, much has changed in my life, but the most important has remained - my friends are still here.

And it's good to be back Helsinki. As many of my fellow town dwellers do, I love Helsinki. This is a city with strong identity and nice atmosphere, and one of the things that make this place really cool is the fact that, I'd dare to say, most of the people really like to live here. It's not a place which people dreamed getting out of. It feels like home here.

Here are some pics from Suomenlinna. It's an island part of Helsinki.

Goodbye Helsinki

Helsinki is my favorite city in Finland. I love the parks, trams, and the atmosphere, but most of all I love all my friends there and the way my life is in there. Actually I was just getting used to living back there, just when I’m leaving again! I’m of course very happy and excited about the fact that I’m going to move to Prague for the spring and the summer :) but it was a little bit sad moment (well, just a little bit) when I left my apartment to which I’m not going to return anymore.

There it is, in a student building. Probably the right time to leave.

And the neighborhood... well, I’m happy I had an excuse to leave that! :) This is one example of the place: I lived right next to the train station, and one night in the early 2008 someone had thrown up quite a big load of vomit in the station. Well, it took them (I don’t know who’s responsible for keeping the stations clean. VR, the train company probably) a while to arrive to the scene and clean up the mess, but they didn’t really do a good work that day nor on any other day after that.

Ladies and gentlemen. It is fucking 2010, and the dried up vomit is still in the Pohjois-Haaga train station! Seriously, whatta hell??

Yes honey, puke. When I go back to Helsinki, I will find a better place!

Frost

Yeah, I know, yesterday I wrote a post about exactly the same thing... But I just can't get enough! :D It's so incredibly beautiful outside!

So, again today I went out to take pictures. Today everything was covered with frost. It's like there's a sugar glazing all over this land.

Amazing sunlight.

Frost.

Freezing...

Winter wonderland.

More beautiful pictures of the sugar glazing and frostbites on my friend's Antti's blog.

Winter wonderland

Here in Helsinki we're having the most snow since the 60's. And I'm loving it! Usually winters here in southern Finland are an annoying mixture of cold wind, rain, wet snow, ice and slush. But now we're living in a winter wonderland! :) I went for a walk to the nearby woods and took pictures.

And me in the snow.

Apart from admiring the nature, I have been searching, searching and still searching for the internship. But there might be something for me now, so let's see. ;)

So many goodbyes

This fall I was a lot with exchange students, because we had the same courses. And the thing with the exchange students of course is that they at one point go back home. It was today.

We went to take Edi to the bus. We had coffee together and also said goodbye to the people we don't see here anymore.

Masha, Christian, Joshi, me, Sergio, Edi and his at least 30 kilos of luggage. ;)

Edi wanted to have his last coffee and donuts at Arnolds.

Bye, bye... Hope to see you all again soon! :)

Singing

I've been doing loads of presentations, assignments, projects, work, hobbies and stuff this fall. Basically I'm doing (or supposed to be doing) something all the time. Sometimes it's a bit tiring, but then again sometimes it's really rewarding.

For example singing. I spend like 6 hours a week in a choir and in a singing group. Sometimes, because of that, I have to stay up late doing stuff for school. But I wouldn't exchange it to anything else!

Especially today we had a great practise :) and I can't wait for the Christmas concert! Which is 12th Dec by the way... ;)

Hanna in our practise.

Now, luckily, I only have to wait 2 days for our choir practise! :)
